In Your Arms 04:19
IN YOUR ARMS Honey what’s come between us Buildings burning down That thing in the elevator Well I just wanted out If they come to find you And you fall in their hands I will go there with you To find myself again In your arms in your arms in your arms In your arms in your arms in your arms Where I can feel you breathing And I don’t feel the end In your arms in your arms in your arms Guns and badges numbered Impossible arrest I lost you in the thunder Lightning in my chest But who could come between us Three thousand of them dead The nightmare we were living It wasn’t in my head In your arms in your arms in your arms In your arms in your arms in your arms Where I can feel you breathing And I don’t feel the end In your arms in your arms in your arms Where I can feel you breathing I feel it all again In your arms in your arms in your arms Crushed velvet Won’t you take me down Closed circuit On the floor now Crushed velvet Won’t you take me down Closed circuit On the floor now On the floor now On the floor

WHAT’S LEFT OF MY HEART Somehow I lost direction And the wrong looked right Caught in the headlights Of a godforsaken night In the eyes of my country In the eyes of my Lord I was nobody’s hero What was I shooting for I know it’s not easy But it can’t be that hard I don’t know where we’re going But it can’t be very far I’ve got my reasons I never learned to play the part But I’ll give you what’s left of my heart I’m a born believer I wear that cross I hope the good Lord receives me But I’m afraid I’m lost Hold me closely You’re all I’ve got It took a war to show me What love can cost I know it’s not easy But it can’t be that hard I don’t know where we’re going But it can’t be very far I’ve got my reasons I never learned to play the part But I’ll give you what’s left of my heart I know it’s not easy But it can’t be that hard I don’t know where we’re going But it can’t be very far Besides I’d go any distance With you driving the car And I’ll give you what’s left of my heart Yeah I’ll give you what’s left of my heart I want your love I want your godforsaken love

It's True 03:06
IT’S TRUE I was born with this world in mine Running down a dream I ran out of time Somewhere along the road I must have missed a sign I had no one to father me I built my own empire and lost the key If you can look right through me, tell me what you see It’s true it’s true Yeah I look a lot like you It’s true it’s true it’s true I look a lot like you Catch your eye in the subway light Flashing like a photograph in the night I may be strange but I was born to be alright It’s true it’s true Yeah I look a lot like you It’s true it’s true it’s true I look a lot like you In the mirror on the wall I saw you In the mirror looking out I saw my own kind of face It’s true it’s true Yeah I look a lot like you It’s true it’s true it’s true I look a lot like you

WHISKEY MOUTH Phonograph Pale music and one-night stand No one knew that it was leading to A shotgun wedding I confess I am never gonna be your best Your daddy’s suit and my mama’s dress There’s no use regretting What I can’t work out Is how we live without The things we say We don’t need today What I live without I don’t talk about Because it hurts Too much say Save it for another day Sour mash Drank my heart into a head on crash Heavy feelings that I can’t hold back I don’t think we’ll make it Whiskey mouth Who’s fooling who I can’t get out There’s a special kind of feeling now Hitting the pavement What I can’t work out Is how we live without The things we say We don’t need today What I live without I don’t talk about Because it hurts Way too much say Save it for another day Tell me what it is I’m missing All that static on the line You got reasons well then give em And I will give you mine A little piece of mind What I can’t work out Is how we live without The things we say We don’t need today What I live without I don’t talk about Because it hurts Way too much say What I can’t work out Is how we live without The things we say We don’t need today What I live without I don’t talk about Because it hurts Way too much say Save it for another day

WHEN WE WERE YOUNG When we were young We swam where we are now Your eyes were starry nights The water deep And we dove down Our t-shirts on We drank ourselves to sleep Prayed God our souls to keep With the whiskey We passed around We didn’t care about All the things that matter now When we were young When we were young Ohio River bank The storm came in I took your hand And made you mine Here we are now Caught in the memories Missing the nights We don’t remember We can’t forget We didn’t care about All the things that matter now When we were young You gave me your heart out on the water I gave all I could, you wanted more You’re all I ever cared about I can’t let this flame go out Love like lightning coming down Bring us back to what we found When we were young

Blue 02:05
BLUE Oh your poetic face Born with every heartbreak Written on it Lost in a cold embrace Cemetery night Forever haunted You want something And I want something So we made something Out of nothing Gold is a funny color Fades into the night Without a warning Blue an elusive lover Rising with the light Gone in the morning You want something And I want something So we made something Out of nothing How am I to see How am I to know Who’s the first to go How are we to know When you want something And I want something So we made something Out of nothing
Blue like a fever burn You can’t bring back the dead For all your crying Blue I looked out for you Some things never change There’s no use trying

ALL I EVER WANTED Emergency medical I guess somebody must have Made the call I’m hanging on I’m hanging on I’m not used to the attention Now I can’t say my name out loud Can you hear me now Cause I can’t hear me now I guess all I ever wanted Was to love and not be haunted Crybaby left over an hour ago The sun set like a picture show All the pretty horses coming down I guess all I ever wanted Was to love and not be haunted Make make believe In the whispering waves It was beautiful and strange It was beautiful and strange Somebody’s praying in the waiting room There’s an ocean in the window view Reach out to touch it and I’m gone I guess all I ever wanted Was to love and not be haunted

about

Kate Tucker is a songwriter, singer and producer from Akron, Ohio. Growing up in a family of truck drivers, Tucker became
acquainted with the American road from an early age. A sense of place, space, home, and the vast unknown continues to inform her work in both mood and lyric. Perhaps this frequent travel set in motion what would become her own musical journey, cutting her teeth in Cleveland rock clubs, moving to France to busk in the streets of Paris, setting off for Seattle to start a band, only to hit the road again for NYC, and end up in Nashville, Tennessee.

In what Tucker calls her “toughest year yet,” she made a record that is actually not at all heavy, partly due to the nature in
which it was recorded. Low on cash and emotional energy, she decided the only way to lay down anything at all was to think
like Lou Reed. “My dear friend Kenny Childers and I had instantly bonded over our love for The Velvet Underground and our favorite thing to do together was pretend we were writing songs for their next record. We didn’t have any specific goal in mind; I knew I was going to make a new album soon, but I didn’t think I’d let myself do it this way.”

By this way, Tucker means driving up to Bloomington, Indiana to record ten songs in two days in a basement somewhere in the middle of nowhere with a handful of folks she’d never met, including Freda Love, who had taken a bus down from Chicago, sticks and snare drum in hand.

“It was fitting to return to the midwest to make this record. I had just lost my mom unexpectedly, so I’d been driving back and
forth from Nashville to Akron all summer long. I just got in the car again, almost on autopilot and ended up in Indiana instead. Kenny said at one point, ‘You know...it’s just that good old Midwest practical sadness.’ And that was it.”
